What is Silica Sol Casting?
Features of silica sol casting:
- You can set and adjust the pouring process parameters of silica sol casting freely within the process range. This ensures liquid metal fills smoothly. It also reduces or avoids tumbling, impact and splashing of molten metal during filling. As a result, fewer oxide slags form. This helps avoid or reduce metal casting defects and improves the custom casting quality.
- Pressurizing molten metal as it fills improves its fluidity. This makes steel castings form well—they get clear contours and smooth surfaces. It’s especially helpful for making large thin-walled castings.
- Metal castings crystallize and solidify under pressure. This allows full compensation for shrinkage. So the metal castings have dense structures and high mechanical properties.
- The process boosts molten metal yield. Usually, no riser is needed. This greatly improves how much molten metal gets used, with yields typically reaching 90%.

5. Low-pressure casting offers good working conditions. It’s easy to mechanize and automate production—this is another major advantage.
- Low-pressure casting has a wide range of applications. It works for almost all types of casting alloys. It can cast non-ferrous alloys, as well as cast iron and cast steel. It performs especially well with easily oxidized non-ferrous alloys. It effectively prevents molten metal from forming oxide slag during pouring.
- The engineering components made by silica sol casting has no special requirements for casting materials. Any material that works for casting can be used in low-pressure casting. These materials are basically the same as those used in gravity casting and special casting. For example, sand molds (clay sand, water glass sand, resin sand, etc.), shell molds, metal molds, graphite molds, investment casting shell molds and ceramic molds all work. In short, low-pressure casting has few strict restrictions on casting materials.
